Framing the Value of IX Participation in the Interconnection Market
14:00 - 14:30

Historically, transit savings have been sufficient incentive for IX participation.  Recently, transit price erosion has given rise to potential convergence of transit and IX per unit traffic costs.  Interviews with IX managers and participants tell a more nuanced story: there is substantive value in the opportunities to identify unique interconnection partners and redundancy. A number of hypotheses where formulated based on this framework, taking these together,

This presentation is less about telling and more about validating the framework and hypotheses.  The presentation will be designed to be a frank dialog on the state of the interconnection industry write large, the evolving value and role of IXes, and IX value in developing regions such as Africa and South America.  As a researcher, the presenter welcomes constructive critiques of the framework and assumptions.  The end of the presentation will elicit suggestions for case studies of IX participants, those that are new to the IX world as well as success (and failure) stories.

IXP Challenges
14:30 - 15:30

Many IXPs are facing the same challenges, such as de-peering and falling transit prices. What can all IXPs learn from those who have faced these challenges before? Is it possible to mitigate the effects of some challenges or maybe even avoid them completely?
